What does “No realms are currently available” mean?

The message reads “No realms are currently available” and carries the error code WOW51900309. Blizzard Support’s article on this code says: “This error will usually occur right after the weekly maintenance has completed.” It gives two fixes: reset your login, and if that does not help, make sure your game client is up to date.

WoW Forever has no realm list. You choose a ruleset instead of a realm, so there is no other realm to switch to.

Fix it step by step

Steps 2 to 4 are Blizzard’s. Step 1 saves you time when the servers are simply not back yet.

  1. Check whether maintenance or an outage is still going on. The server status page lists where Blizzard posts it: Blizzard Customer Service on X, the Weekly Maintenance Schedule and the Battle.net app. Expected: if Blizzard reports maintenance or an outage, wait until it reports the end; nothing on your PC will fix it.
  2. Log out of every World of Warcraft client and the Battle.net app. In Blizzard’s words: “To reset the game, log out of all World of Warcraft clients as well as the Battle.net app on your computer.” Quit Battle.net from the system tray (Windows) or the menu bar (Mac) so it does not keep running in the background. Expected: no World of Warcraft or Battle.net window is left open.
  3. Open Battle.net, log in and start WoW Forever again. Expected: the character list loads.
  4. Still no realms? Check for a game update. Blizzard points to its Technical Troubleshooting article (choose Patching) for updates “that may cause your client to be out of sync with the live version of the game.” In the Battle.net app, pick World of Warcraft: Forever under Game Version, then use the cog next to Play to check for updates or run Scan and Repair. Expected: the client is on the current version and the realms appear.

Stuck on “Retrieving character list” instead?

If you get past the login but the game stays on “Retrieving character list”, Blizzard Support says that “usually indicates maintenance is not complete”. See what to check on the server status page.

Still seeing it?

If every step fails and Blizzard reports no outage, Blizzard’s article suggests asking the player community on its tech support forums. When you ask, or when you contact Blizzard support, include the error code (WOW51900309), your region and the time it happened.
